About

My preferred take on a self portrait.

I am an aspiring photographer based in Cheshire, UK just on the edge of the Peak District national park.

I mainly like to shoot outdoors in remote places but will try my hand at most genres, particularly like black and whites and seem to be drawn to more minimal and dark, moody styles of photography.

I have had some success in a few local photography shows, most recently winning best of show which I was proper chuffed with.

My interest in photography was nurtured at an early age by my father who had converted the garage of our home into a darkroom, I will always remember the black plastic covering the windows and doors fondly! Despite this early introduction I only took it up as a serious hobby quite recently, getting my first dslr in 2013. A slightly used Pentax Kr which I later upgraded, but I am a big fan of the Pentax way of doing things.

Not long into my journey I felt a pull to my dad’s old film cameras and just had to have a go, loaded up a roll of Ilford HP5+ and went for it. I fell in love with film straight away and even started to develop them myself which I find very rewarding, unfortunately most of the old darkroom equipment had disappeared over the years. I now own several film cameras of my own as well as the inherited ones, most recently a medium format pinhole camera, and like to shoot a roll or two on a regular basis.

There are many things on my photography bucket list, but mainly I would just like to see more of the world, especially Europe.
